Black Mold Testing

Black mold testing is not a just some sort of test to rob you of your hard earned money. It’s a test that is very real, and can check for the toxic mold and prevent serious health problems from occurring in you and your family.

The test can be performed in one of two ways. The first way being that it’s done by a professional who can check for mold in your home using certain tools and techniques. Hiring a professional is best when there are hidden molds or areas you cannot reach such as crawl spaces or attics.

A professional will test for toxic mold in problem areas such as attics, basements, bathrooms, crawlspaces, kitchens or anywhere there is a suspected moisture problem. He or she may also do an indoor and outdoor spore count to determine if there is a high count of spores in your home.

Once samples have been taken of the suspected toxic molds, they’ll be sent to a lab for analysis and then the results will be sent to the professional. He or she will then go over those results and tell you the types of mold they found, and whether or not you’ll need to take the next step by recommending you hire a professional that specializes in mold removal.

The second way this type of test for mold can be performed is by purchasing a test kit and checking for the toxic fungus yourself. Purchasing a test kit will not only save you money, but will also save you time since you don’t have to wait for someone to come to your home.

Most test kits, which can easily be purchased online, allow you to take a swab and swipe it across the area where the molds are present. You then transfer the swab sample into a sterilized container that is sealed and then sent to a lab for an analysis. The results are sent back to you, which tell you what molds are lurking in your home, how much is present and any other findings from the sample.

At-home mold test kits are good for visible mold when you’re unsure of their type and whether or not they are toxic. However, if  you know there are molds in your home, but you can’t find them, you may very well be better off  hiring a company who is qualified to test for mold. Otherwise, you may be faced with a serious problem such as water damage mold, which can result in both health issues and structural damages to the home.

Just be sure to do your research before you hire just anyone, or before you purchase a mold test kit from just any company for that matter. Not every company is reputable, so you’ll need to ask around to find out who’s worth spending your money on and who’s not. Because when it comes to black mold testing,  your health and your family’s health shouldn’t be put into the hands of just anyone.
