When You Need a Mold Removal Service

Mold Removal Service

A mold removal service is necessary when your home is overrun by the fungus and you can’t do the job yourself. And because mold can not only cause seasonal allergy problems, but also more serious health concerns if it’s left to grow, removing mold from your home is a number one priority.

But whether you choose to do it yourself or hire a professional will depend on how serious the mold really is that’s growing in your home. If it’s only a small amount that’s less than 10 square feet, you should be able to remove the mold yourself.

However, if the mold growth is 10 square feet or more, or in an area such as an attic or crawlspace where access is limited, then it’s time to call in the professionals and let them handle the problem.

Before you hire just anyone, you need to do your homework to make sure the job gets done right. And while you it’s really not necessary to hire the most expensive company you can find for mold removal, you don’t want a person who’s just claiming they can remove the molds either.

And if you’re not sure where to begin, ask your friends, family and even neighbors if they know of a company they would recommend. Or check with your local chamber of commerce for a list of businesses that may be able to help. And of course don’t forget your local yellow pages.

Once you think you’ve found the right company for the job, make sure they are licensed and certified, and be sure to ask for references from other homeowners. Then, find out of your homeowner’s insurance will help pay for the company to help remove those molds. Even if they won’t pay for the services, they may be willing to at least cover any damages caused by water damage mold.

If not, you still may be able to save a little money by asking the company if they offer any discounts for their services. Most businesses are not obligated to mention discounts unless a customer asks first.

If they don’t offer any special discounts, you might try mentioning another company that you’ve been thinking about going with. Most businesses don’t like to know that they’re going to lose a sale to their competitor and will almost always be willing to make a deal.

Before you make that deal however, you’ll want to go over any concerns or issues you may have before the work is done or a contract is sign. And of course always get everything in writing, all the way down to even the smallest details.

Once you’ve sealed the deal and hired the company, make sure they follow what was agreed to in the contract, including the amount of time spent, costs, products used and so forth. On rare occasions you may find that a company isn’t willing to follow the agreement.

If the company you’ve hired for mold removal service isn’t willing to cooperate you may need to take charge and get the law involved. After all, it’s your home and your health that’s being affected.

House Mold Removal Tips

House Mold Removal

House mold removal may not be an everyday household chore, but it is necessary when you have even a small amount of mold growing in or even around your home. And don’t think that because it isn’t the toxic kind, it won’t harm you.

Most molds, even when they’re not toxic, can still cause allergy problems and even become severe to some people. That’s why it’s very important that mold removal is a top priority on your spring cleaning list this year even if you‘re certain you‘re not dealing with toxic mold.

However, you should also keep in mind that while it is important to keep mold at bay, it’s physically impossible to remove every single spec of fungus that lurks in or around your home. But, you can at least keep them to a bare minimum by first off, keeping your home as clean as possible.

For example, make it would be a great idea (maybe not always practical) to take off your shoes outside the front door, or at the very least, the hallway. Shoes are notorious for tracking in dirt, which can be a perfect breeding source for mold.

And if you have pets that come in and out of the house, you may want to brush or hose them down before they come into your home, since pets can carry just as much dirt and dust as your shoes can.

Inside your home, there are numerous areas where mold can hide. Dark and cool areas are a welcome spot for mold growth, so check under cabinets, bathtubs, behind and in appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers, and in basements for problem areas. Also, don’t forget the laundry room and clothing hamper where moisture can occur.

Depending on the types of mold, you may be able to get away with using just a good mold and mildew cleaner to make your home spic and span again. However, if you’re dealing with a problem like water damage mold, you’ll need a lot more than just a simple cleaner and a little scrubbing power.

If that’s the case, you’ll want to purchase a mold spray that is designed specially for the mold you’re dealing with. Then, you’ll need to follow the manufacturer’s directions of the product and be sure to wear some form of eye projection, gloves and a face mask at the very least since you’ll be working around possibly toxic mold.

However, if the damage is far worse than you expected, you should consider calling in some professional help for the job. And depending on the extent of the damages and the area where the moldy growth occurred, the cost of mold remediation could be anywhere from $500 to $5000.

Yet, no matter how big or small your house mold removal job is, cleaning up the mold is an absolute must! Without it, you’re not only making the problem worse, you’re also putting yourself and your family’s health at risk. So why risk it, because when it comes to mold it can be a deadly game you’re playing.
